5 Places To Hike For Beginners in Klang Valley

Hiking is a great way to get in your step count or sweat a few beads without being too vigorous. It is a great activity to spend quality time with friends and family, at the same time being surrounded by nature and bask in the crisp morning air. You would always feel great after a hike because of the reward of your effort - the view and breakfast.

 

#1 Bukit Ketumbar, Cheras

This hike has slightly rocky terrain surrounded by numberless trees. The peak is an open field with outdoor gym equipment that is inspired by nature. The hill is well maintained by the community and it is often crowded on weekend mornings. 

During the hike, you will be greeted by friendly locals who are also clocking in their steps. The hike takes around 3 hours up and down. The peak serves as a really good photo spot with people adoring nature, cooking, eating, and resting.

 

 

#2 Bukit Sri Bintang, Kepong

A hill nestled inside a residential housing area in Kepong. Bukit Sri Bintang is a neighbourhood favourite for those residing nearby. It offers 2 peaks which both offer a great view. These trails are uphill and a little sandy but give you a clear path on where to go. It gets a little hot though as the sun rises, so be sure to bring a couple of sun protection gears, like sunscreen and a stylish cap. Also, remember to always stay hydrated during any hike!

 

 

#3 Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya

Bukit Gasing, often known as Gasing Hill, is a tropical forest park in the Kuala Lumpur-Petaling Jaya region. Due to its location on the border, there are two separate entrances to this park. There are numerous hiking routes and entry points which are located at Kerinchi and Petaling Jaya. Hikers will get to see a little stream of the river, a suspension bridge, and a Hindu temple on this trail. 

Visitors will also be able to witness the diverse plants and creatures that inhabit this woodland. In the morning, the trail is usually crowded with local residents of the nearby neighbourhood, who will greet you with ‘Good mornings’ making the hike worth your while. This hike will take you an estimate of 3 hours, up and down.

#4 Eco Forest Park, KL

This ticketed hidden jungle is an attraction for tourists and locals alike. MyKad holders pay RM10 each, while non-MyKad holders (foreigners) pay RM40. The ticket price is pre-pandemic, and may have changed since then.

There are 7 trails in this park. There is a viewing deck, located at Tower D about 5 mins walk from the entrance is where you can spot the photogenic suspension bridge that overlooks the contrast of greenery and concrete, with an unobstructed view of the KL tower. Best not to miss a moment to capture a perfect view for your Instagram feed.

 

 

#5 Kota Damansara Community Forest Reserve

This hike is empowered by the community for the community. The forest trails of Kota Damansara forest have been carefully designed and painstakingly constructed over many years by volunteers and Temuan Orang Asli in close consultation with the Selangor Forestry Department.

The goal of these low-impact routes is to allow people to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this residual lowland forest while also respecting the live forest habitat. It’s a suitable place for beginners new to hiking. This park is well managed to ensure that it remains rich and dynamic for future generations to come. Read more here.
